Evidence for the Existence of a
Supernatural
Being We Call God
People who do not believe in God ask for proof
of His existence. Yet, the same applies in logical presentation
that they should be compelled to provide proof that He does not exist.
Despite the fact that they would not want to admit it, it is a simple fact that
atheism
and the disbelief in God is a faith just like Christianity and its faith in God
Introduction: Science and Faith
Fatih in God does not contridict the facts of sciences. As a matter of fact, 60% of all scientists in the world today believe in a super being we call God.
An even more amazing is that in truth, the claims of those who do not believe in a supernatural being we call God simply cannot be proved. How would they know with total certainty that there is no God? Therefore, despite the fact that they would not want to admit it, it is a simple fact that atheism and the disbelief in God is a "faith" and the conclusions of that faith in "No God" are in contradiction with available scientific evidence.
The Nature of Truth
Before we begin our discussion on the evidence of God, I want to discuss the term Truth. The Hebrew word for “truth” suggests something that is concrete and reliable. To know Truth means more than about simply being right. Truth takes us to the point where something is worthy of our trust.
Have you ever wondered if God
exists or if we just got here by chaos?
Maybe you think belief in God is only for the weak-minded, those who are ignorant enough to let blind faith keep them from acknowledging the hard facts of science. But science and faith don’t have to be at odds. Many scientists are discovering that the facts associated with the design of the universe, planets, solar system, and nature strongly suggests it was by design and intelligence that all things exist. It is also a fact that is not often mentioned, there are many brilliant scientist who are totally convinced that everything that exist was created by an intelligent being we call God and not a result of randomness and chaos.
For the most part, science has adopted the Big Bang theory as their explanation for the existence of the Earth and the Universe. What amazes me is that these brilliant minds choose to believe a theory based on chaos and speculation where randomness, chaos, and chance are the main ingredients.
Big Bang in essence says that an explosion happened in space (where space just happen to exist) that sent particles (that have always been there with no explanation of origin) through space and by random chance those particles formed into planets, which began to revolve around each other, began to take form, and to make it quick just like that our solar system was born. Then, a meteor carrying an ameba (that just formed by itself) just happen to penetrate the Earth’s atmosphere, survive the intense heat, land in the ocean (where did the ocean come from – no other planets have oceans), and after millions of years evolved into all life forms that are on planet Earth.
Intelligent design says that everything is complex and requires intelligence to work. A super being we call God, designed and created the universe and life with His legion of beings (we call angels) and his superior intelligence. In 1983, Dr. Robert Grange appeared on television stating how generic engineering had shown that everything has signs of intelligence in their makeup. Even the simple cells, that were supposed to make evolution so viable, are not so simple. They are actually complex from a genetic point of view and show signs of intelligent design. To prove a point about the order and precision that is designed into the universe, Stephen Hawking was able to use mathematical calculations to identify the location of a black hole. Now, where you have such precision you have the influence of intelligence. Math is an exact field. In Math the answer is right or wrong. With chaos and random events there is no precision.
As a Computer and Knowledge Engineer I like to view things from a probability point of view. So here it is, what would the odds in a casino to bet on the events of the Big Bang theory? They would be astronomical, and at a bear minimum I would speculate it would be a zillion to one. I wouldn’t bet with those odds. What about Intelligent Design? A super being we call God, designing and creating the universe and life with His legion of angels and his superior intelligence. Believing in the super being we call God, the odds would be 50 / 50. I would bet on a 50 / 50 odd any day over a minimum of a zillion to one (for the Big Bang’s random design by chaos and chance).
As a computer and software engineer, I tend to want better odds when I am designing something. As an example that I like to use, consider this, if I take a bunch of computer parts and lay them on the floor, and leave them there for millions of years, will they assemble themselves to into a fully functioning computer? I wouldn’t bet on it. OK, let’s say there are a million earthquakes that send the parts flying in the room. Again, what are the chances of the parts landing in such a way that the computer is assembled? Believe me, random assembly of a computer is nothing compared to forming a whole universe, galaxy, solar system, and planets.
Also, would the software necessary for it to work design itself through chance and by some random fate load itself onto the computer that has somehow assembled itself? Let me tell you, the answer is NO! However, with my intelligence, I can assemble the parts, add the software and boot it up; chances are I will have a working computer.
As Christians, we believe (trust) God created the Heavens and Earth. The book of Genesis tells us an overview of God’s creative act. It is not intended to be a science book or a step-by-step re-accounting of each process used in the design and implementation of His creative plan. And, while the Bible does contain some profound scientific facts (such as the Earth is a circle (round) – Isaiah, and the Earth being suspended in space – Job) it is not written to educate scientists on God’s laws of nature nor His blueprints for designing a universe. Rather, it was written to tell us how much God loves us and how He has dealt with mankind since our creation.
Evidence of God: Jesus Christ was Supernatural Person
Jesus was a supernatural being sent by God to Earth to save mankind from sin and to reclaim Earth back to God. His birth, ministry, miracles, death, and resurrection are historical fact. However, not all believe. One such person was a devout atheist Lee Strobel.
Lee Strobel, former legal editor of the Chicago Tribune with an M.S. in Law from Yale Law School, uses his journalistic skills and legal knowledge to dig into the evidence behind Christianity’s beliefs about Jesus. This skeptic-turned-believer relates his interviews with a dozen experts in theology, archaeology, philosophy, psychology, medicine, and other fields in an effort to assemble a thorough, meticulously researched case for Jesus. As a former atheist, Strobel is familiar with the major objections to Christianity—which he raises at every possible opportunity. But his interviewees never flinch, and they are able to respectfully but firmly squash these doubts and objections by using multiple facts and examples and citing a wide variety of sources.
At the end of Strobel’s investigation, which parallels his own two-year search for answers that led to his conversion, he summarizes the overwhelming evidence for the truth of the Bible’s claims about who Jesus was and what he did. He then gives the reader a glimpse of the realizations he faced after weighing the evidence for Jesus. He writes in his book The Case for Christ,
“The atheism I had embraced for so long buckled under the weight of historical truth. It was a stunning and radical outcome, certainly not what I had anticipated when I embarked on this investigative process. But it was, in my opinion, a decision compelled by the facts.”
The reliability of the New Testament documents and the corroboration of the story of Jesus in other ancient accounts— prove that Jesus really did live, perform miracles, die of crucifixion, and rise from the dead. Findings such as the Dead Sea Scrolls in 1947 confirm these documents accuracy (Strobel, 2004).
What’s totally amazing is that some of the most profound evidence of these facts was written by secular (non-believing) historians. One secular historian recorded thousand of names of the witnesses who saw Jesus after His resurrection.
Evidence of God: The Bible is a Supernatural Book
The Bible, God’s word contains numerous scientific and medical facts. The information in the Bible far exceeds the knowledge of the men who wrote down the words. Most were written in the Bible between 2000 and 4000 years ago. Science has discovered many of these just in the last century. There is an excellent book that mirrors many of these facts that I have listed and provides explanations for them. The book is written by Ray Comfort entitled: Scientific Facts in the Bible: 100 Reasons to Believe the Bible Is Supernatural in Origin (Paperback, 2001).
Facts About the Earth
The Earth is Suspended in Space - "He stretches out the north over the empty place, and hangs the earth upon nothing." Job 26:7
The Earth is Round – a Sphere – "It is he that sits upon the circle of the earth." Isaiah 40:22
The Universe is Expanding - "It is He that stretches out the heavens as a curtain, and spreads them out as a tent to dwell in." Isaiah 40:22.
North Star is the only star in the North - "He stretches out the north over the empty place" Job 26:7 Note: It is believed by many that Heaven is in the North beyond our universe.
Stars to Great to Number - "As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured." Jeremiah 33:22
Currents Exists in the Oceans - "And the fish of the sea and whatsoever passes through the paths of the seas." - Psalm 8:8.
Medical Facts
Life is in the Blood Supply - "For the life of the flesh is in the blood." Leviticus 17:11
Life Cycle of Disease - "And when he that has an issue is cleansed of his issue; then he shall number to himself seven days for his cleansing, and wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in running water, and shall be clean." Leviticus 15:13
Circumcision on the 8th Day - "And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you” Genesis 17:12. (Best day for clotting agents.)
So then, If God Exist Why do Bad things happen to
Us?
People who do not believe in God ask why do all the bad things happen in the
world. So in their faith of not believing in God bad things still happen. So, do
those bad things prove there is no God over the overwhelming scientific and
logical evidence that He does? No, in no way.
Does being a a believer in God and a Christian mean nothing bad will ever
happen to you or your family in your life time? No, not at all! The problem
with most of the bad things that happen to us we often want to blame God. Yet,
90% of the bad things that will happen in your lifetime are either caused by
Satan, who hates you and wants to destroy you, by nature and chance, or by your
own decisions or actions. (For example, you go and get drunk, drive your car a
100 mph and have a wreck. Yelp, that’s God fault alright!)
Again, most of the time, we just blame God. The other 10% may be God chastening
you trying to get your attention and get your life back on course. Just like a
parent disciplines their children to correct their behavior, your Heavenly
Father will on occasion correct you to your life back on the path that it
should be on. This happened to me last year! It worked and now I am focused on
the things that I should be focused on.
First of all, Satan and his fallen angels and demons, hate you because you are
redeemed by the Blood of the Lamb. They hate God and they hate you. PERIOD!
Satan is never your friend and he never has any good thing to give you. They
love to cause problems in your life because they love for you to blame God. There
is nothing they want more than for you to curse God for something that has
happened to you or your family. They will take every opportunity you give them
to help you make bad decisions.
One of the most famous books in the Bible on this topic is Job. The importance
of the story of Job is that it clearly shows how Satan and his army are always
trying to do bad things to both non-believers and followers of God. It also
shows how those who love God are often shielded and protected from harm. Job
loses everything, yet refuses to curse God.
Now, A True Story
My grandma Tackett had eight of her children die at the age of two or less.
EIGHT!!!! To me, the most tragic event that we have to deal with in life is
children who are sick or dying. Talk about someone who seemed to have a right
to curse God. Talk about someone who had the right to give up on having faith
that God even existed. She could have given up on children and life. – Wow! –
However, she never cursed God or lost faith in Him. Instead, she prayed and
believed in His love for her and His divine will for her life.
One of her children named Ruby Lee, put her toys up one night, came and sat on
my grandma’s lap and told her that she won’t need her toys anymore that Jesus was
coming to take her to Heaven to see her brother (Clifford, who have previously
died). Ruby Lee died that night. Grandma would go on to have six children who
lived. They would make up my mom and my aunts and uncles on the Tackett side of
the family.
Then a voice was heard in my grandma’s living room. The voice said “Hattie, you
have suffered enough. From this day forward, you will be blessed!” My mom and
aunt still tell the story of that night and hearing the voice. From that time
on, God’s miracles and blessings followed her. My mom and my aunt both got sick
and Hattie was told they would die. They prayed that evening. The next morning
the doctors told her they had somehow completely recovered.
Other miracles would follow. One of the most awesome miracles was when her
water supplied dried up during a Texas drought. Grandma took all of her
children to the pond and prayed. The next day the pond was full. Let me say
that again, the next day the pond was full. No rain, no explanation just a
miracle of answered prayer from our Awesome Heavenly Father. Does God exist?
You bet!
All of her six surviving children have lived long lives. Grandma lived until she was 83. Her husband lived until he was almost 90.
Personal Stories
I know God exist because I have felt Him in my life since my childhood. I
cannot tell you how many times He has rescued me from disaster. There was the
time my car would not start. It saved my life. There was the time I was young and
driving foolishly and He prevented me from being killed or killing someone
else. Then, last year, I was very sick. God healed me (please read my testimony).
Then, there is the story of Dilliram. He was a devout Hindu. But he accepted Christ and his life changed. Lives do not change overnight like his did without divine intervention. Read his story at www.tgcm.org/missions.html.
Heaven and Hell
Many people, including some Christians, do not believe there is a literal
Heaven or Hell. However, regardless of what we as people think, the Bible
clearly states that both places exist. Hell is often described as a place of
constant torment and the feeling of hopeless and being lost. Heaven is often
described as a modern city where the saved go and are rewarded for their faith
in God. For those who do not believe the Bible and have no faith in God, you
are gambling on 50/50 odds that you are right. Image the horrible consequences
that await you if you are wrong.
When I worked for KXTX TV Channel 39 in
Dallas (Christian Broadcasting Network – CBN) there was a man who appeared on
the 700 Club who described his journey to Hell. Seems he had been hit in the
head with a log and knocked into the water. He was lying dead for about 45
minutes. He said he did not believe in God or an after life. During the time he
was dead, he tells of how he went to Hell and saw the lake of fire with its
intense blue flames. He spoke of the heat and torment in that place and about
the feeling of being without hope. Then he saw Jesus. He said he knew if Jesus
would just turn to look at him that he would be rescued from this place. Jesus
did look at him and sent him back to Earth to his body. Trust me, now the man
totally believes in Christ and in the after life.
More recently, a man named Bill Wise has told his story of how he spent 23
minutes in Hell in 1998. If you do an internet search using 23 minutes in hell
by bill wise, you will see sites with more information. His story is very
fascinating.
What About Heaven?
The believers in Christ who go to heaven will have an awesome future. However, it is not a place where you will just sit around all day. Many will be placed in positions of authority over other creations of God and rule other worlds. There are jobs and tasks and other occupations that will be filled. However, in that life, you will never experience pain, suffering, sorrow, or death.
A Personal Family Story
My uncle LeRoy was sorta rebellious in his younger years. My grandma Hattie was a very strong Christian and would pray that God would bring LeRoy to the faith. One night, uncle LeRoy was getting ready for bed. As he sat down on his bed a voice spoke to him saying "LeRoy, we have heard the prayers of your mother and I am here to show you where you are headed when you die." He looked and saw the backside of a being who was glowing - an angel. Then he was shown a vision of Hell. He saw the lake of fire and the people burning but not being consumed. He heard the cries and saw all the horrors of Hell. After the vision, he repented and accepted the free gift of eternal life through faith in Christ. He joined the Baptist Church and was active in it all the way up to his death. You can believe this story or not, it is your choice. But that vision changed my uncle's life forever.
It’s Up to You
Finally, the
truth is it is your decision whether to believe in God or not. God has said in
His word, "The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." and
"For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal
power and divine nature,have been clearly seen, being understood through what
has been made, so that they are without excuse!
Having faith is God enriches your life. Accepting the free gift of eternal
through faith in Christ the Son of God means you will spend eternity in Heaven.
There are not a bunch of rules you have to follow. You are not required to join
a certain church or pay anything. Paul says, “Stand in the liberty where Christ
set you free!” Eternal life through Jesus is a free gift that is received when
we confess with our mouth that Jesus is the Son of God and believe in our heart
that God raised Him from the dead.
The fact is everyone will die. If you choose not to believe and you are wrong you will spend eternity in Hell. If you are right then you no longer exist.
When we are born on this earth we have a range of 0 to 110 years that we will be alive. Sometime during this span of years you will face death. At the moment of your death, you spirit will leave your body and go to its eternal state. Secular people believe that at death everything ends and all that you were is gone forever. Christians believe that death is actually the beginning of a new and eternal life. Everyone will have this new life. However for some, it will be spent in the lake of fire. This is because sin has separated us from God.
If you haven’t accepted the free gift of God of eternal life in Heaven, you can at this moment. What you need to know is that regardless of who you are, where you're from, or how bad you may have been, God still loves you with an awesome love and wants you to accept the FREE gift of eternal life through faith in His Son.
Today, with all your heart confess that you need the free gift of eternal life and believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He died for you! Please don’t put it off till later. If You die today, then it will be too late, you would be lost forever because of your sin. You may not yet have all the answers to your questions, but please accept the free gift of eternal life right now.
Accept God’s free gift of eternal life and know you will be going to heaven when you die!
You can accept God’s free gift by saying the following prayer to God:
Father God, I confess with my mouth
that Jesus was your Son and that He died on the cross for my sins.
I believe he arose from the dead and is now in Heaven with you. I ask for your
forgiveness
and accept the free gift of eternal life in Jesus name. Amen.
There is nothing magic about these words—it is the attitude of your heart that God cares about.
If you just prayed that prayer, I have great news for you! You have been adopted into the family of God. Your past mistakes and wrongs are totally forgiven and you are a new creation in Christ. Yes, you are still the same person with your likes, dislikes, habits, and the such, but now you are an heir to God's incredible promises and your life has a new meaning!
