Joy in Death

The Awesome Promises of God’s Love

Introduction

Many fear death and dread the thought of themselves or a love one facing death. However, everyone who is born of this Earth must one day die. The thing is, we don’t know when that day is and often it comes suddenly and is a terrible shock.

Paul wrote in the Bible that we as Christians should not be as those who do not have our hope. When a Christian dies, they immediately go into the presence of their Heavenly Father. People who have gone to heaven during periods of death and have returned to Earth have all said that it is glorious and that they did not want to come back. The Bible says we as Christians are to rejoice in the death of someone who is saved and has the promise of the Lord. Paul says that we should not be as those who have no hope. There should be a difference in our outlook. If you really believe in your inheritance from God, it would be something that you would look forward to and not dread. Remember, nothing compares to the promises we have in our Lord Jesus Christ.

A Story: Dealing With Death of a Loved One

Jim was very excited. He had just purchase his wife’s anniversary gift and could not wait to get home to tell her about it. He sat at his desk in his office, watching the clock. Then finally, it was time to leave. Jim said bye to everyone, and got in his car and headed home. However, Jim never made it home. He was killed in a traffic accident. Instead of going home to be with his wife Mary, he went home to be with the Lord.

Mary got the news later in the evening. She was in shock and dismayed. Her wonderful husband was gone. Now, she was alone with tons of questions. What am I going to do? How am I going to continue? What about the house, the bills, the etc…. She was emotionally lost. There are no words to describe how one feels. it's just an empty, hopeless feeeling. One does not know what to do with themselves. However, she looked up at her sister in all of her grief and dismay and said, Jim had accepted Jesus as his savior just a few weeks earlier. Now he is with God in heaven. I’m so glad I know he has gone to be in his new home in heaven.

The impact of Jim's death would be lessened as members of the family came to Mary. She would not feel as alone as she would if she were by herself. It will be hard for Mary after the last person leaves and she experiences the stillness and isolation of suddenly being alone. For Mary, it would take months to learn to live with Jim’s death. She had to learn how to be on her own again and how to find new things in life to make her feel worth while. Yet she was always so glad that Jim had finally believed on the Lord because she had great comfort in knowing he was in heaven.

What Mary would not see is that God had sent His comfort to her in her time of need. God carries us through the saddest and darkest times in our lives.

A True Personal Family Story

EIGHT!!!!  Yes, EIGHT!!!! My grandma Tackett had eight of her children die at the age of two or less. To me, the most tragic event that we have to deal with in life is children who are sick or dying. Talk about someone who seemed to have a right to curse God. Talk about someone who had the right to give up on God, children, and life. – Wow! – However, she never cursed God. Instead, she prayed and believed in His love for her and His divine will for her life. Was it easy? No. Did she cry, Yes! Did she miss her children, of course. But she knew God had taken them back to heaven.

One of her children named Ruby Lee, put her toys up one night, came and sat on my grandma’s lap and told her that she won’t need her toys anymore that Jesus was coming to take her to Heaven to see her brother (Clifford, who have previously died). Ruby Lee died that night.

Grandma would go on to have six children who lived. They would make up my mom and my aunts and uncles on the Tackett side of the family. (They are shown in the picture below.)
