What is Love?
In today’s world we say we love everything. We love that TV show, we love that new store, we love our shoes, and we love our new furniture. Then of course, we love our girlfriend, boyfriend, husband, wife, children, family, and pets. But what is love? In truth, the word love should only apply to your girlfriend, boyfriend, husband, wife, children, family, and pet. It should not be projected onto objects.
Paul describes love in 1 Corinthians Chapter 13: 4-8 as:
4. Love is patient,
love is kind.
It does not envy,
it does not boast,
it is not proud.
5. It is not rude,
it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered,
it keeps no record of wrongs.
6. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
7. It always protects,
always trusts,
always hopes,
always perseveres.
8. Love never fails.
I have known many couples who refer to these verses when they talk about their love. However, I have heard them in their daily conversations fail to exercise these words in their relationship with each other. Many of you who are reading these words will say yes, that you believe it. But how often do you actually practice these words in your daily life?
